What is Osteopathy?
About Osteopathy
Osteopathic manipulative medicine describes a tradition of medicine as taught by A.T. Still, MD, DO (1828-1917). Disappointed by the results he observed while following the allopathic model, Dr. Still developed a unique, drug-free approach to health and the human body following natural laws. Dr. Still understood that the body possesses self-regulatory mechanisms that allow it to heal itself. With a deep respect for nature, Dr. Still developed a hands-on approach to assist the body with the work it does to maintain optimum health.
“When every part of the machine is correctly adjusted and in perfect harmony, health will hold dominion over the human organism by laws as natural and immutable as the laws of gravity.”
— A.T. Still, MD, DO
What conditions can be treated with osteopathy?
Osteopathy is recognized as a treatment for all conditions affecting the human body. As osteopathy is designed to assist the body in functioning optimally, all pathology can improve through the body’s own self-regulatory processes. However, some conditions respond particularly well to osteopathic treatment. If you have any questions about how osteopathy may benefit you, please call Dr. Murphy at 612-367-6445.
